Survivor Space

survivorspacezine

A survivor has been emotionally, physically or sexually assaulted by a family member, partner, friend, or stranger. It can happen to anyone, anywhere, any time, in an infinite number or scenarios. Because of this, how or why one identifies as a survivor is unique to each person who claims the title. For me, to be a survivor is to take your suffering and reclaim it as your own. I have found empowerment in connecting with like-minded individuals who have experienced the same pain I have. For a long time I thought that pain was only meant to be my own. I thought of it as my weight to carry. This was before I realized there are thousands upon thousands of beautiful people thinking the same thing. They feel unheard, unimportant, and utterly alone.

I was lucky enough to find the courage to speak openly about my abuse, but only after I saw others take the initiative before me. That was my primary inspiration for creating a zine designed by, and for, survivors.

My goals are to

  • create a network of survivors
  • create a platform for survivors to teach through experience, and help fellow survivors grow and cope
  • spread awareness
  • provide a safe space that acts as a creative outlet and a place to heal and connect with others

If you are feeling afraid, anxious, alone, or angry, I want you to tell the world and I want you to tell them why. You will not be ignored or met with accusations. You are safe, you are trusted, and you are not alone.
